The Footscray Station Hotel artwork by Kerrie Gottliebsen celebrates the iconic Station Hotel. Standing proudly on the corner of Napier Street and  Hyde Street Footscray, the hotel is one of the western suburbs’ beloved pubs that balances old-pub charm with gastronomic flair.

The corner is pretty iconic. It features the Maribyrnong City Council buildings, the Police station, and the Footscray Historical Society located in the Ercildoune Building (originally the National Australia Bank circa 1876).

With a strong reputation for steaks, a warm interior, a lively beer garden, and family-friendly touches, the hotel has become a go-to spot for locals and visitors alike.

Station Hotel Footscray History

To understand the context of “The Station” in Station Hotel, it’s helpful to remember Footscray’s own rail history.

The original Footscray railway station opened in January 1859, when the Williamstown line began running through this area. That early station was located on Napier Street (not far from where The Station Hotel now stands) and was part of the rapid expansion of rail infrastructure that shaped Melbourne’s early suburban growth.

Fortunately, it’s still only a five-minute walk to where the current Footscray station is for those times when you want to enjoy more than a few frothies.
