This vintage inspired artwork by Kerrie Gottliebsen celebrates Daylesford’s Boathouse and the beautiful jetty on the opposite side of the lake. The Boathouse Restaurant, situated at Leggatt Street on the serene shores of Lake Daylesford, is a cherished dining destination that combines rich history with modern culinary excellence.

I recently visited Daylesford at the onset of Autumn, a sublime time to be there. After a peaceful walk around the lake, I settled beside the beautiful wooden jetty opposite the Boathouse to create a few watercolour paintings and sketches. As I worked, a woman dove off the jetty and swam across the lake. It was a captivating moment, and I couldn’t help but admire her courage. Hello bucket list.

Lake Daylesford’s Storied Past

Lake Daylesford itself was created in 1929 by damming Wombat Creek, transforming a former gold-mining and Chinese market garden area into a tranquil lake to beautify the scarred landscape.

The original boathouse served as a hub for recreational activities, including paddleboat and canoe hires, becoming a beloved spot for both locals and visitors.

In 2012, a devastating fire destroyed the original boathouse. The structure was meticulously rebuilt, preserving its historical charm while incorporating modern amenities.

In 2016, the venue was revitalised under new management by the former owners of The Farmers Arms, who introduced a refreshed menu and dining experience.

Available in A4 and A3 sizes.
