The History of Second Ave Grocer (Altona Fresh)
Their story starts way back in 1949, when 17 year old Onofrio Palamara, arrived in Melbourne from a small farming village in southern Italy and opened Palamara Fruit Supply in Bridge Road, Richmond. Onofrio built his business on a passion for fresh seasonal produce, family and the flavours of his homeland. Values he passed on to his four children – Philip, Sandra, Diana and Enzo.
The children wanted to expand his vision beyond fruit and vegetables and create a delicatessen and grocery for the quality foods that brought our family together around the dinner table every evening. In 1990, with the help of wives, husbands and kids, the family opened their own store on a quiet street in Altona North.
Today, Second Ave Grocer is a marketplace for fresh seasonal produce, rare cheeses and hand-sliced meats, specialty pantry items, plus plenty of inspiration for your next meal.
