This artwork by Kerrie Gottliebsen celebrates Seddon’s iconic Mona Castle Hotel. Located in the heart of Melbourne’s West, the Mona Castle has been standing on Austin Street for 150 years. The front bar oozes friendliness and warmth, and in the afternoon is basked in sunlight.
The pub reopened in 2022, after two years of dormancy during the COVID pandemic. Owners Nick Schultze and Bradley Olsson, who also run the Ascot Vale Hotel, breathed new life into the 1874-built pub. While they decided to keep the corner spot facade and bones, they modernised the interiors in a casual, familiar way. They also rejuvenated the cellar downstairs and the banquet room, which is designed to give families a quieter space away from the public bar.
The old school horseshoe island bar invites punters to gather around for a chin-wag, or dream about the doggies winning another premiership.
